NSLM is excited to welcome back our members and the community to enjoy access to the Library & Museum, beginning Friday, July 17. In the first phase of reopening, NSLM will be open on Fridays and Saturdays.

To minimize physical contact and to practice social distancing, one-hour timed tickets for a self-guided tour of the Museum must be reserved in advance online. No tickets will be sold on-site. Tickets are by timed-entry and are limited in order to manage safe capacity. Ticket times are available for 11am and 2pm. To visit the Library for general reading, research, or a study time please contact our George L.Ohrstrom Jr., Head Librarian for an appointment. Please note that bathrooms will be closed to the public during our first phase of reopening.

Temporary Visitor Requirements

The health and safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers are of the utmost importance at NSLM. In accordance with the latest guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the state of Virginia related to COVID-19, NSLM kindly requests that visitors adhere to the following protocols:

• Stay at home if you are sick, experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or have had known exposure to the virus.
• Face masks are required at all times in both indoor and outdoor spaces. NSLM does not provide masks.
• Adhere to posted social distancing guidelines and building and outdoor space capacities.
• In all indoor and outdoor spaces, stay at least six feet apart from other visitors, staff, and volunteers.
• Follow visitor flow path as posted on signs and visitor map.
• To ensure your continued safety while visiting NSLM, follow all instructions from our staff members during your visit.
• Visitors not following requirements may be asked to leave.

NSLM is a proud participant in Museum for All, a cooperative initiative between the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Association of Children's Museums, to offer a signature access program that encourages families of all backgrounds to visit cultural institutions regularly and build lifelong museum and library habits. Individuals with a valid SNAP / EBT card have free admission for up to four people. 

Supplies necessary for the safety of visitors and staff during our phased reopening have been funded by Virginia Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act

Directions

From Washington D.C.
  • Take Route 66 west into Virginia.
  • Take exit 57B Route 50 west/Fair Oaks/Winchester.
  • Continue approximately 20 miles until you reach Middleburg.
  • Just past the Southern States, turn left onto The Plains Road.
  • Continue about 50 yards and turn right into the NSLM driveway.

From Washington Dulles Airport (IAD)
  • At airport exit, follow signs for Rt. 28 south towards Centerville.
  • Exit onto Rt. 50 west towards Winchester.
  • Continue approximately 15 miles until you reach Middleburg.
  • Just past the Southern States, turn left onto The Plains Road.
  • Continue about 50 yards and turn right into the NSLM driveway.

From the North or South via Route 15
  • Take Route 15 to Route 50 west.
  • Continue on 50 west approximately 10 miles until you reach Middleburg.
  • Just past the Southern States, turn left onto The Plains Road.
  • Continue about 50 yards and turn right into the NSLM driveway.

From the West via I-81 and Route 50
  • Take Route 50 east.
  • Continue on 50 east approximately 29 miles until you reach Middleburg.
  • In Middleburg, turn right onto The Plains Road.
  • Continue about 50 yards and turn right into the NSLM driveway.
