Back by popular demand, Barbara Riggs, retired Deputy Director of the U.S. Secret Service, Middleburg resident, and lifelong horsewoman, will regale the audience with “behind the scenes” portrayal of Ronald Reagan the Horseman.

During Ms. Riggs’s 31-year career with the Secret Service (1975–2006), she served six different presidents. From 1981–1986, she served as presidential protection detail for President Reagan, during which she spent hours "riding the trails" with him at Camp David, MD, and at his beloved Rancho del Cielo, located atop the Santa Ynez Mountains northwest of Santa Barbara, CA. The former Hollywood actor, TV host, governor of California, and president of the United States was a lifelong horseman.

Ms. Riggs will highlight the role horses played in Reagan’s life and illuminate his passion for horses. With some never-seen photographs, she will also share personal experiences and humorous stories about riding with the former president.

Ms. Riggs is also thrilled to announce her role as the Executive Producer for the production of the new feature-length documentary, REAGAN THE HORSEMAN. This inspiring film takes audiences on an unforgettable ride into the untold story of Ronald Reagan’s lifelong passion for horses and how the philosophy of the Western horseman profoundly shaped his character, integrity, and patriotism. 

With rare access to President Reagan’s beloved Rancho del Cielo, REAGAN THE HORSEMAN reveals his deep bond with the land, horses, and the ranching lifestyle that influenced his life and leadership. Featuring never-before-told stories from friends, family, former Secret Service agents who navigated the unique challenges of protecting a president on horseback, and members of the exclusive Rancheros Visitadores, directors Lisa McCubbin Hill and Alyson Holland bring Reagan’s world to life with stunning cinematography, rare archival footage, and never-before-seen photographs.
