September Sunday Sketch with Alice Porter

Join us in the Museum on Sunday, September 27, at 2 pm for Sunday Sketch, the NSLM's free art workshop that occurs every last Sunday of the month. We provide all the materials—you just bring your curiosity and creativity.

Come learn from local artist Alice Porter as she teaches a lesson inspired by our current exhibitions. All ages and abilities are welcome!

About your Instructor

Alice Porter is a professional artist, educator, and lifelong equestrian with extensive experience in both classical art techniques and art education. She trained in old master painting at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and earned a BFA from Tufts University before earning a Master’s degree in Art Teaching from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Porter spent more than 20 years as a professional portrait artist, illustrator, and photographer, completing more than 30 commissions, including two 30-foot murals for the U.S. Navy. She later taught Integrated Arts in Loudoun County Public Schools and has continued teaching community art classes since 2005.

Now based in Middleburg, VA, Porter brings both professional artistic experience and a deep understanding of the equestrian world to her teaching. She works with students ages 6 to 70, introducing classical techniques while helping artists of all experience levels develop their skills and individual creative goals.
