How Can I Help? An Evening with Douglas Tallamy
Reception followed by discussion, Q&A, and booksigning.
Back by popular demand, the National Sporting Library & Museum is thrilled to welcome Douglas Tallamy — New York Times bestselling author, wildlife ecologist, and one of the most inspiring voices in conservation today — for an unforgettable evening on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
In his compelling new book, How Can I Help?, Tallamy answers the questions he hears most at his sold-out lectures nationwide: What can one person actually do? Where do I start? Does it really matter? The answer, he argues, is a resounding yes — and it may be simpler than you think.
From reducing your lawn and planting native species to simply letting fallen leaves lie, Tallamy reveals how small, intentional choices made by everyday gardeners and homeowners can have a profound ripple effect on local ecosystems. Drawing on decades of research in ecology, evolution, biodiversity, and conservation, he makes the science accessible, the mission urgent, and — most importantly — the action achievable.
This is not a lecture about what's being lost. It's a roadmap for what can be saved.
Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just beginning to think about your backyard's potential, you'll leave this evening informed, inspired, and ready to join millions of like-minded people becoming the future of conservation — one garden at a time.
Don't miss your chance to meet Douglas Tallamy and get your copy of How Can I Help? signed in person.
