Theodore Roosevelt’s Sporting Universe

Opening on October 12, the Library’s Forrest E. Mars, Sr. Exhibit Hall will spotlight Theodore Roosevelt—one of the greatest sportsmen and naturalists of his day—and several of his like-minded allies, who worked together to ensure and safeguard the future of traditional field sports into the 20th century.

Assembling an array of books, manuscripts, photographs, and illustrations from the National Sporting Library & Museum’s F. Ambrose Clark Rare Book Room’s formidable holdings, this exhibit will highlight the range of publications and sporting causes that Roosevelt wrote about and endorsed—penning the occasional Foreword or Introduction—as well as a selection of texts from the thinkers who inspired, or were inspired, by him.
